Entry 24: Windows 7...

so after a long battle here i am...
finally i have conquered windows 7...

like all good...
and most of the time lame movies...
now that u already seen the end...
it makes good sense for me to roll back time...
and bring u to the very beginning...
so that u can see...
how the battle really started...

there was the good times...
when Win XP offers the stability and just enough complexity to blow everyone's mind off when it came out...

then after years happily married to this stable but none too flashy worker...
perhaps like all men before in history...
many succumbed to the temptation of the alluring Windows Vista...

alluring because Vista looks to offer something close to what Windows user can only crave for...
things that are only available in Mac...

i was one foolish one...
and found myself after abandoning the one good piece of my life...
into a venture into the unknown with the beautiful yet shallow Vista...

and there the frustration begins...
a quite pretty but very slow interface...
a RAM eater...

Vista was all but a pretty vase...
one that perhaps make u feel good because it looks good...
and makes u work hard because u simply have no choice...
crashes...
lag downs...
everything point to a reconciliation with the lovely XP...
but my ego was too big...

and then the beam of light arrives...
Windows 7...
finally a product from MS that people do not bomb from the start...
so much promise...
but how to lay hands on it?...

then came the perfect opportunity...
through some education loop-holes...
actually loop-hole is not a nice word...
maybe generosity...
and definitely generosity from my friend...
i was given a copy of Windows 7 Pro x64...

and the battle begins...
for one...
x64 stuff have a lot of compatibility issues with x86 systems...
so even though the initial image of Windows 7 was corrupted...
i didn't know because most time when i handle the files...
the warning messages were always incompatibility with x64...

an online search reveals that image corruption is quite common with users...
i really wonder why?...
and i screwed myself up by thinking my Vista was at fault...
so i formatted my com with only a bad copy of Windows 7 in my hands...

in the end it took me 2 computers and a laptop to get everything done and running...
and it was all worth it...

Windows 7 is a neat OS...
compact in size...
smooth in running...
definitely smooth compared to Vista...
on 4GB Ram...
i have issues with Vista sometimes when i access my photo library...
or when i copy mass amount of files...
but none too apparent in Windows 7...

in fact i am impressed with the smooth desktop background changes every 10 seconds...
really neat...

although i must admit certain functions really need getting used to...

for example...
after pinning My Computer to my task bar...
everytime i close the My Computer window...
the My Computer icon becomes My Documents...

and i can't seem to fix the pin items in the exact position i want...

and like the preview at GeekBrief.com...
i agree that it is quite pointless to have all window goes transparent when u hover on the desktop icon...
u mean that is for u to check out ur desktop background once in a while?...

there are many nice features in Windows 7 that i have yet to explore...
side by side viewing of 2 windows...
shake the top window to minimize the rest and all...

by the time i finally managed to install my Windows 7...
i have only 2 hours to sleep...
but everything looks promising...

and perhaps this excitement is the only thing driving me at the moment...

seriously...
i need to sleep...
